If you add up every of the electoral votes,
the total will come to 522.

So if any presidential candidate wins the total vote in each of these respective States, such candidate goes with the allocated electoral votes for that State won.

The parties that gets up to 270 electoral votes becomes the President. That is why a Democrat Party can have a total of 70MM votes, while the Republican has 67MM votes and would still win the seat of the Presidency.

Amongst few other considerations, States are essentially allocated electoral votes, based on their contribution to the economy of the Nation. Begining from Alaska and seven other Nations, who are allocated 3 electoral votes, and it continues up until the biggest and largest State, California which is allocated 55 electoral votes.

We need such chochoristic arrangement in Nigeria. Because our current arrangement is not balance! The electoral votes concept, will make our election meaningful and we wouldn't have to depend on the stronghold of any region, other than how much it truly contributes to d welfare of our nation.
